Looking for temporary liability insurance for 18 wheelers? When they purchase a new truck at the dealership, and they do not have a DOT # or a permanent lease with a motor carrier, they still need liabilty insurance to drive the truck off the lot.

You won't likely find any market that will give you "temporary" coverage. He also may need physical damage, unless he paid cash for the truck. Best to just write a policy that will insure him for what his operations will be, so they can get motor carrier filings done etc. -if he's going out on his own and obtaining permits. If he is going to lease on with someone, you can write a bobtail liability (with physical damage) policy. (your underwriter may let you follow up with a copy of the lease once signed on) Either way, being new he may have to pay for insurance a month or so before he actually gets going.
