What does any one know about Star Insurance Company? They seem to be out to buy their way into the market here for oilfield risks in particular. Premium quotes seem to be well under the market and they do not seem to care what drivers MVRs look like. All of my other markets are getting persistent about MVR record qualifications.

As a company person I can tell you that usually when rates look to good to be true they are. And you are exactly right...any company who doesn't care whats on an MVR could be trying to buy thier share of the market by charging a 80 cents for a dollars worth of risk. Listen to your gut on this one.Alot of folks are out buying market share in this soft market, but the pendulum will always swing the other way, it might not be today but it will come. When it does , its bad for customers and agents. Dont get caught up in that.

Hi! I've been in this business over 25 years, and have seen some of the best come and go. Star at one point had a surplus lines division, and that's what I am familiar with. I've been thru some really soft markets and then turndown to some really very hard ones. I'd suggest you get on their company website to get more information on them. Also check the AM Best website. As an agent you can register. I'd see how their ratings have been the last 5-10 years, which will give you a better picture on their financial stability. I've had customers tell me that they are saving heaps of money by going with some new market. I wish them well, advise them to put their premium savings in some type of high yield account. Then I mention to them some of the biggies that have gone under in the last 10 years. I also explain to them if a company goes under the policyholders get in line behind the other creditors (no preferential treatment). Good Luck
