I am new to the independent world; I came from Farmers and am looking for a company or companies to connect with. I have tried a few of the online wholesalers and am willing to look into others but really need service to be key. Service is always an afterthought so if you cannot stand behind your service, please don't reply. I do business in CA and NM and am looking for Commercial, personal lines, life, health and financial services brokering. I would truly appreciate some recommendations! Thank you!!!

Very interesting post and am very surprise to see no replies yet. This is very unusual especially during the worst market condition we've seen in decades. I'm not replying to your post merely to promote my company or programs. As many independent agents may agree, you cannot rely on a single market. There's no such thing as one stop shop for all when it comes to markets. I am an underwriter for an MGA in California and am sick and tired of seeing replies from MGA reps that claim to be the best market for whatever inquiries they find under "Request a Market". Hungry for business I guess. My hats off to you for emphasizing "no reply needed if service sucks". Unfortunately, there's not a single MGA rep that will admit to suckiness of their service even if it really does. After all, we are in a service industry like no other. We sell paper that says "You are guaranteed BUT we can weasel ourselves out anytime". The real dirty work is done by agents NOT the executives of the carriers, MGA's or wholesaler. I've witnessed (and worked for) many MGA's owned/managed by incompetent, self-centered, profit driven, ignorant veterans. Majority of them are looking for mere profits, and little do they know that SERVICE is what brings profit to the company. So how do you define good service? Is it fast turn-around? Maybe it's the friendliness and ease of doing business? What if the MGA does what they promised but the carrier doesn't follow-through? I'm sorry to say, if you're looking for service, you'll have to find out for yourself. Whatever you do, don't fall for BIG players. Just because an MGA is big and well-known nationally, doesn't mean that they will deliver. To them, you'll be just another agent that submits one or two apps per month. (FYI- They tend to focus on volume) If you are starting out as an independent agent with Farmer's background, I would suggest querying other Farmer's agents for their suggestions. You'll witness that they all have their favorites since many Farmer's agents already work with MGA's on accounts that they cannot place with Farmer's. The key to finding good MGA's is to talk to as many MGA underwriters as you possibly can. Test them out by submitting all kinds of risks even if it qualifies under other standard markers and soon you'll easily discover their integrity. You'll also find out that each underwriter and markets have their own special appetite. Hence no such thing as "One stop shop". Good luck.
