Back Wholesalers/Surplus Line involving in retail sales

I recently ran into a few wholesalers who also do retail sales either via their wholesale name or throughone of their subsidiary. My client had received a call from an agent and once we followed the thread, it ended up being from the wholsalers using our lead. 

Is it a good idea to ask them in advance if they also do retail?
