I'm a new agent and I'll be on the "plan" January 7th, does anyone have any beneficial advice so I can come out of the gate with a full head of steam? Thanks in advance for your response and have a great holiday season! Best Regards, Geoff Graue

The market place, and competition will take some of the steam out of you. There is an old joke out West, about the old Bull & the young Bull walking down the road. The young Bull looks up on the steep hilltop & spies the 50 heifers on its top. He says to the old Bull, "Lets run up this hill and have our way with one or two of those heifers!" The old Bull suggests that, "Lets walk up the hill & have our way with all of them!" Advice: Target a specific industry & approach everyone you can in that specific business. You will learn everything about it, with time, rating, markets, problems, coverages needed, etc, etc. Then target 1 or 2 more specific classes of business & make yourself an expert in what they need. Keep going from there.........& Good Luck!

I would also suggest, you join as many Professional and Personal Organizations as you can handle. Professional will give you the networking you need and Personal will allow you to expand the pool of referrals.

Geoff, I will assume that you are in the P&C end of things. I am not. I am in the Life, Health & Specialty Markets. I do work with many P&C agents however, and my advice is to look for a door opener that sets you apart from everyone else. One exciting option is International Life & Health Insurance. Everyone loves to talk about travel and it is a good avenue to let people know that you are in the business of protecting people. And we can assume that many of those people that you are protecting have businesses or assets that need to be protected as well. Good Luck David Compton

24 year P&C retail agent veteran here ... I wish I would have listened to this guy 10 yrs ago when he was calling on me and telling me how he could increase my retention and grow my business by referrals - exponentially. I have nothing to gain by recommending this person and site to you - except increased comeptition. If I had it to do all over again, I'd listen to everything his Quantum Club members tell new agents to do to the T. They are some of the most profitable and successful P&C retail Agents in our industry - other than large brokers who've grown thru aquisitions. They grow organically and profitably. Look for Michael Jans - Quantum Club / Insurance Profit Systems http://www.quantumclub.com/Welcome/ All the best!
