Can some of you tell me what a CSR's job description would look like. I need to know what they are expected to do in a day. What is the size of book they can handel, do they write new business and renewals? Do they do all policy maintenance? When does the producer hand over a new piece of business? Does the producer give them the new business information to do the applications and submit to companies then the CSR gives it back to the producer to sell? What can I expect out of my CSR's? Thanks in advance for your input.

CSR can mean any number of things at different size agencies. In a small agency, they may handle everything once the producer passes the info on. In some other agencies the producer does much of the fact gathering before handing over to CSR. An in other situation, the producer does the fact gathering, marketing and submission prior to handing to the CSR for entering in mgmt system and filing etc. It really depends on what type of commission split/pay schedule the producer is on and what the agency owners expect the CSR to do.

The Society of CIC has some great resource books on this topic and others. ROUGH NOTES magazine has also given guidance at times. Your local BIG I is a great sugggestion too.
