I have a new Texas agency (S-Corp) which primarily writes commercial lines. I have a target market that I am going to focus on and if this takes off like I think it might, I will have a need to write in multiple states. When that time comes, I know where to obtain a non-residence license for each state but can anyone direct me to the type of attorney or consultant I should work with to make sure my agency will be allowed to conduct business in that state? Any advice or insight on how to begin and handle the process would be appreciated.

We are licensed in all 50 states and DC for P&C, L&H and Surplus Lines and we do it ourselves. (We are not a huge agency either) The following companies can be great resources if you want to do it yourself, it is really not that difficult if you pay attention and have good procedures in place. If you are going to do licensing on your own, try this company if you are doing surplus lines business as they have good solid information; (they provide information only do not do the filings for you) http://www.insurancetaxservices.com/default.asp If you are going to do admitted business, then consider this group; http://www.nipr.com/ (This is the group, non profit connected with the Nalt IAssoc of Ins Commissioners) Here is a great tracking system in our opinion; (we currently use) Compliance Management System Extending Data Exchange to the Producer Level Financial services organizations are seeking an easy-to-use, dependable, electronic workflow solution to the paper-intensive and manual processes currently used for insurance licensing and securities registrations. There are many steps involved from the point when new recruits are hired, until they are cleared to sell and collect commissions. The steps vary among insurance and securities companies, but typical steps include exchanging of employment contracts and hiring paperwork, obtaining or documenting licenses and registrations for the individual, obtaining appointments, and delivering/tracking continuing education as required to maintain licenses and registrations over the producer's years of employment. Product Overview The Compliance Management SystemSM provides a seamless workflow for producer hiring, licensing, compliance tracking and education. It automates and streamlines these processes in a single, integrated system: Mainframe Data Gathering Component Database Component Processing Component Appointments Terminations PDB Background Investigations CRD State DOI Producer/Rep CRD Manual Distribution Self Service OR MGA Event Triggers: Automated Email Reminders (License expirations and education requirements) http://www.kaplanfinancial.com/kfs/Producer-Licensing-and-Appointment-Services/Compliance-Applications/Compliance-Management-Network.asp In the end, if you do not want to do this stuff yourself, here is a comnpany that I have used previously and they are top notch; http://www.licensing4insurance.com/ Good Luck
