As I'm sure many of you are aware, MyNewMarkets.com recently launched product tags.  I won't go in to depth about all the changes that were made, but please feel free to read about them if you haven't already.

Product tags give you the ability to associate keywords with your products without having to write copy around those keywords, or put them in a list at the end of your product's description.  Tags also give you the ability to use industry specific (maybe a type of insurance in your area is called something different than what it is called on the other side of the country) terms without having to select from the predetermined categories that we previously used.

Tips for Picking Good Tags

You are allowed 10 tags per product.  If you only need 2, please only use two as spamming tags is frowned upon.

  1. The MyNewMarkets.com search engine is capable of translating a search for "roofing" in to other words that use the same stem, "roof".  This means that if you tag your product with roofing, and I search for roofers, the search engine will include your product in the results it shows me. This means that adding the tags roofing, roofers and roof to your product is generally considered not beneficial.
  2. Use terms that people will search for.  Think like your customers when selecting tags.  Nobody goes to Google.com and searches for "automobile insurance for teenage drivers."  They likely search for "teen driving insurance."
