I live in Colorado Springs Co and I purchased a townhouse/cone on Sept 30 2016. I got the HO6 insurance. We were unaware of hail damage in July of 2016 it was not disclosed by the previous owner. At the beginning of Nov we received a letter stating we owe almost $5000 for our portion of the assessment. Are we liable for this since the damage was way before we even closed? The previous owner was aware this assessment was going to be done per our neighbors.

It should go back to the previous owner's insurance, assuming they had the coverage.  Check with your realtor.  I believe assessments have to be listed on the Sellers Disclosure.  That might help you decide who to go after.

I agree with DPalmers answer.  The previous owner should have disclosed that in the sellers disclosure.
